ANSI/ISEA 107-2020: High-Visibility Safety Apparel Standards
At 3A Safety Groups Inc., we’re committed to providing high-visibility safety gear that meets or exceeds industry standards. The latest revision of the ANSI/ISEA 107 standard—ANSI/ISEA 107-2020—is now in effect and reflects updates in garment design, workplace safety, and labeling requirements.
If you have questions about compliance or selecting the right gear, we’re here to help.
What’s New in ANSI/ISEA 107-2020?
Garment Types by Work Environment
To better reflect real-world use, ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 defines three garment types:
-
- Type O (Off-Road Use)
For workers not exposed to roadway traffic (e.g., warehouse, oil & gas, mining). Includes Class 1 garments.
- Type O (Off-Road Use)
-
- Type R (Roadway Use)
For workers exposed to moving vehicles or equipment. Includes Class 2 and Class 3 garments.
- Type R (Roadway Use)
-
- Type P (Public Safety Use)
For law enforcement, EMS, and emergency responders. Includes Class 2 and Class 3 garments.
- Type P (Public Safety Use)
Sizing Adjustments for Smaller Frames
Minimum background material requirements have been reduced to accommodate smaller body types:
-
- Type R Class 2: Reduced from 775 sq. in. to 540 sq. in.
-
- Type R Class 3: Reduced from 1,240 sq. in. to 1,000 sq. in.
Flame Resistance Labeling
Garments made from polyester or non-inherent flame-resistant fabrics must include the following label:
THIS GARMENT IS NOT FLAME RESISTANT AS DEFINED BY ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 SECTION 10.5
Are 3A Safety Products Compliant?
Yes. All existing 3A Safety garments were already compliant with previous ANSI standards. The 2020 updates primarily affect new garment categories and sizing flexibility. We continue to offer both ANSI-compliant and non-ANSI options to meet the needs of various industries and work environments.
